PS5 overtook Switch as the best-selling console in the US last month

For the first time in almost three years, Nintendo Switch is not the best-selling console in the US. In September, the difference went to Sony’s Playstation 5. In a tweet seen by GameSradar, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said Portable PS5 Outsold Nintendo last month both in terms of units of volume and the number of dollars, thus ending a streak of 33 months impressive as a console best-selling in the US. The last time the Nintendo Switch was not at the top of the sales chart in November 2018 when PS4 held the position.

Piscatella did not say what helped push PS5 to pass through the switch, but various factors might contribute to the shift. With 10 million units sold in just eight months, the demand for the Sony console is always there, but the underestimated global chip has made it difficult for the company to maintain a stable supply of consoles. On the Nintendo side, the OLED switch announcement, which is only available in early October, may mean some consumers decide to wait to buy portable. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if the switch can reclaim the top position. PS5 requests are impossible to calm down in the near future, but the lack of chips is not expected to be completed in the near future.
