Every year, Michigan state police test new police vehicles to determine which manufacturers offer the best cars and SUVs for the job. Tests were carried out at Raceway Grattan in Southwest Michigan, and for 2021, troops tested four motorbikes and 11 different vehicles. All entries in the testing regime are subject to acceleration, highest speed, distance to high-speed contests, braking, and laps to allow direct performance comparisons.
The purpose of testing is to help the police department across the country break the vehicle which best suits their needs. Tests found that the all-wheel-drive 2022 Ford Police Interceptor Utility was the fastest police vehicle available. The vehicle is the Ford Explorer version and uses a 3.0-liter Twin-Turbo 300 Horsepower V-6 engine. The vehicle was found in testing to reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and reach 100 mph in 13.5 seconds.
Ford vehicles have a top speed of 148 mph, the highest highest speed of all vehicles tested. Interestingly, the submission of the rear wheel drive dodge with V8 makes 380 horsepower is 0.7 seconds slower until 60 mph and 0.6 seconds slower to 100 mph. Ford SUV also has a higher high speed compared to 139 mph for charger charger filters.
Maybe the most interesting vehicle tested is the Mustang Mach-E police prototype, which is basically Mach-E GT. EV reached 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and 100 mph in 11.9 seconds. It makes it significantly faster than the Ford SUV, but the electric police car is not available to be purchased at this time. However, testing does reveal a widely expected problem of electric vehicles used for pursuit. After 18 rounds around the test line, the battery fee fell 30 percent.
